Stripes, Stripes, Stripes

We've seen it all too often. Whether they're horizontal or vertical, stripes have the potential of making a great look seem overwhelming and disastrous. They can pull and stretch your figure in ways you never intended. My sister once warned me to steer clear of stripes for this very reason, but with their increasing presence on the runway and the high street, I'm starting to give this style another chance....

Combining black and white is a classic, and should not only be reserved for those of us who adorn Chanel. Mix different materials like lace or wool and add pops of color throughout the look to keep it interesting.

Colorful stripes can be fun and intriguing. Steer clear, however, from too many different patterns for a cleaner and simpler look.

{Missoni}
Ah, Missoni. The epitome of what one can do with stripes.
By pairing this jagged skirt with a solid top, the stripes really do speak for themselves.

Can't get yourself to wear stripes but still love the look? Bring the pattern into your home with these creative ideas!

You totally nailed this trend! As a lover of all things striped, I hardly ever meet a striped piece of clothing that I don't like. Prada really went wild with the bold stripes for their S/S 2011 collection: http://nymag.com/search/search.cgi?t=runway&N=4294966934+8522+8748&Nao=0&Ns=srt_season|1

Great post!
